Where to begin ….
We visited this garden in the Autumn of 2024, the client had done some huge renovations to the house and it had decimated the rear garden space. Having spoken to the customer it was clear they wanted to do something with the garden however they didn’t know what. They had also had some bad experiences with previous contractors and it had put them off hiring again.
After a short consultation we came up with some ideas, took some measurements and headed back to the office.
The spec was simple … ish, they had a large pond which they wanted to get rid of to gain a little more garden space. However they didn’t want to lose the sound of running water as they found it quite tranquil. The rest was just upgrading, the wanted fresh paving and fresh walling. They didn’t want super modern but they did want the space be be large enough to accommodate large gatherings.
The main challenge was what to do with the pond and how to keep the water sound. We opted to keep the current waterfall that ran through the planter and drop the water into a smaller tank, allowing for the sound of water to continue but losing the large pond. Keeping the shape of the pond we re built a curved wall and built in a floating cedar bench for entertaining on.
We had some challenging weather on this project having started in January, and we also had to do some head scratching regarding the fall of the patio. The customer wanting the patio to come flush with the rear bi fold doors but also to meet the existing levels of the remaining garden.
Once it was finished, it was amazing!
The beige porcelain paving was complimented by a sandstone cobbled edging and the most beautiful paddlestone walling with hand cut porcelain copings.
We also built in a floating cedar bench and a BBQ area. Both of these look amazing and save space on the main patio.
Although it looks straight forward this garden took so much time, so much head scratching and so much trial and error to get right, particularly the water feature.
In the end, the outcome is sensational and one that the team here look back on with pride.
